Wranglers Take Down Cyclones, 5-2
|
The Newport News Wranglers took on the Mt. Vernon Cyclones at Wranglers Stadium.
The Mt. Vernon Cyclones got a sterling performance from pitcher Adam Noland, but the Newport News Wranglers still prevailed, 5-2. Noland threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Picking up the save was Alex Gonzales, his 3rd.
Had Jose Martinez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Martinez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Wranglers.
Newport News manager Chris Rice was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The win puts Newport News at 4-2.
