Panthers Topple Alpines, 10-6, as Phillips Shines
Due in large part to second baseman Sean Phillips, the Wichita Panthers sunk the Savannah Alpines, 10-6. Phillips was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Hector Mendoza got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Jesse Soto picked up the save, his 1st.

Phillips contributed in the bottom of the second. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one at-bat among others that helped Wichita get the win.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Panthers manager Ross Meister. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."

The Alpines, at 4-12, have stumbled out of the gate.
