Desperados Fall Short at Providence, 3-2
|
The home team gave their fans plenty to cheer about, with a thrilling walk-off win.
The Providence Hex had to overcome a fine effort from Medford pitcher Marty Matthews to win, 3-2, at Ballpark of Providence. Matthews went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Ben Foster snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-3 on the season. Jacob McConnell suffered the loss.
Josh Scales was the walk-off hero for Providence. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hex shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We hit some balls hard and didn't get rewarded for it," said Medford manager Noah Alexander.
Providence has now won 3 straight, while the Desperados have lost 3 in a row.
