Mt. Vernon Nets 10-9 Win Versus Panthers
Juan Guerra was the difference-maker for the Mt. Vernon Cyclones in what turned into a shootout with the Wichita Panthers. Guerra, the 17th overall pick in the 2022 draft, went 4-for-5 in the 10-9 Cyclones win. Mt. Vernon reliever Carlos Brenes was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-0. Jim Unknown took the loss for Wichita. The loss drops Wichita to 3-5.

The Cyclones were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 20-year old third baseman Adam Schwark landed a big blow. He turned a 1-0 cutter from Jim Unknown into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Mt. Vernon Grounds denizens into a frenzy and sent the Cyclones home with a thrilling 10-9 win.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Schwark, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
