The Santa Barbara Super Troopers picked up a win at Car Ramrod Park, dropping the Newport News Wranglers, 5-3. Miguel Romero was the difference-maker. In 7 innings, Romero surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Newport News, with the loss, is still a hardy 4-1.

The Wranglers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Super Troopers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old center fielder Luis Ortega came to the plate. Ortega hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 sinker from Newport News hurler Danny Gonzalez. It was Ortega's 3rd double of the year.
