Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Newport News Wranglers home opener. Alex Gonzales started for the home team against Jared Fryman for the Carson City Miners. The Wranglers were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 4-2, Carson City. Jared Fryman, though, was impressive.

Carson City used a clutch at-bat from Tim O'Connor to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Miners ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

O'Connor said his team "played with focus."
