Unicorns Suffer 8-5 Home Defeat
|
The Little Rock Golden Gophers extended their winning streak.
The 8-5 Little Rock win over Newport was due in large part to Francisco Montoya. The Golden Gophers shortstop went 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles. Andy Yule got the win, improving to 3-0. He held the Unicorns to 4 runs on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2.
Paul DeVaul had a big 2-run home run for the Golden Gophers in the top of the first inning. With Little Rock leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Logan Gustin, who is tied for 10th in the SL1 with a 1.56 WHIP, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Golden Gophers on top, 3-0.
"We came out aggressive," said Golden Gophers manager Michael Kelleher. "We came out swinging the bats."
Little Rock, having won 11 in a row, is now 83-23.
