Naturals Use Late Surge to Win
|
The Greensboro Naturals took Medford pitcher Marty Matthews's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Ballpark of Medford. The final score had Greensboro getting past the Desperados, 2-0. Matthews went 6 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 5. Greensboro reliever Jose Chavez was the winner. His record is now 5-6. The losing pitcher was Joey Bove. Today's win puts Greensboro at 47-59, while Medford falls to 74-32.
Had Justin Freas not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Freas hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Naturals.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Medford skipper Noah Alexander, "and it cost us."
