Hex Capture Close Win
|
The Hex faced a stiff challenge from Newport pitcher Lorenzo Martinez, but persevered to claim a win at Chanticleers Ballpark. The final score was 2-1. Martinez went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. By defeating Newport, the second-place Hex improved to 54-49.
Providence used the clutch hitting of Jeremy Woods to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hex ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Not enough offense on our side," lamented Newport manager Victor Sepulveda.
