Maine Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in DS
A strong performance from pitcher Carlos Mendez was not enough for the San Diego Fleet, who were stopped by the visiting Maine Pines, 5-0, in Game 3 of the Divisional Series. The Pines never truly figured out the left-handed Mendez, who threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Still, the Pines now hold a 2-1 in the best-of-5 series.

Mike Melin, the Maine right fielder, contributed a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 1-0, Pines. For the game, Melin was 1 for 4 with a triple.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Maine manager Chris Ware told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hannaford Dome in Portland.
