Newport turned a good effort from starter Armando Castro into a win over the Pikeville Cavalry at Chanticleers Ballpark. The final score was 4-2. The winner was Castro. He threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Dan Tettemer. The second-place Unicorns have won 4 straight.

Tied up with the Cavalry in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Unicorns got a boost from designated hitter Pedro Quintero. With the bases loaded, Quintero saw a 1-2 splitter from Dan Tettemer and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Newport on top, 3-1.
