The Charleston Shiners got a desperately needed win against the San Francisco Fire today to move into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-3 Wildcard Game. The star of the 5-4 win at Ballpark of Charleston was Charleston right-hander Felipe Gonzalez, who came in in relief and pitched to 23 batters. The Shiners and Fire will next meet in a decisive Game 3.

Ty Beckford dealt the Fire a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Charleston trailing 1-0, Beckford hit a 2-1 fastball for a 2-run double.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Gonzalez said.

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at San Francisco Grounds in San Francisco.
