The Newport Unicorns racked up a win at Paints Park, bumping off the Aurora Paints, 9-3. Jose Zapata, who started for Newport, pitched effectively for his team. Zapata, the winner, moves to 9-5. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 4 walks. Newport is now 47-47, Aurora 34-60.

Mario Carrillo had a big 3-run home run for the Unicorns in the top of the sixth inning. With Newport leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Carlos Rios and swatted a home run to left. It was his 14th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Unicorns ahead, 6-1.

"It was a tough day, no getting around it," said losing manager Orlando Salinas.
