Home Field Advantage: Brey, Ft. Wayne Open World Series with Win
|
The Ft. Wayne Earthquakes powered past the visiting Whitby Bats, 3-1, in the opener of the World Series at Earthquakes Stadium today. Ft. Wayne starting pitcher Jonathan Brey threw 5.0 innings of 1-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Earthquakes now lead the series 1-0.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Matt Schapp didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Whitby trailing 3-1, Schapp retired Ben Leonardi to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Schapp, with a wink.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Earthquakes Stadium in Ft. Wayne.
