Home Field Advantage: Leonardi, Whitby Open League Championship Series with Win
Whitby Bats manager David Sawyers wasn't expecting much from the rookie playing in his first postseason. Maybe he should have been.

In front of a supportive hometown crowd today, 18-year-old first baseman Ben Leonardi humbled the visiting Moriarty Suns at Eláguila Stadia. Leonardi hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice as the Bats shut out the Suns by a final score of 6-0, to give Whitby a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

The outcome was still in doubt in the top of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and Moriarty trailing 2-0, Danny Cortez needed to get a big out. On a 0-1 sinker, Corey David grounded out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Eláguila Stadia in Whitby.
