Greensboro second baseman Jeremy Smith was sensational. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Newport beat the Naturals, 9-3. Nick Combs closed the game out for Newport, earning his 2nd save. Today's win puts Newport at 49-53, while Greensboro falls to 37-65.

Newport used the hitting of Kikuji Tanaka to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Unicorns on top, 4-0. For the game, Tanaka had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
