|
With center fielder John Lendon leading the charge, the Newport Unicorns defeated the Providence Hex, 6-5, at Chanticleers Ballpark. Lendon, who is tied for 3rd in the SL1 in bases on balls with 67, was 1 for 1 with 4 walks, while scoring 2. Newport now sports a record of 48-53.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Lendon hit a fastball from Pat Gannon for a run-scoring single. The Unicorns, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This place sure got loud," said Victor Sepulveda, the Newport manager.
