The performance of Mario Alvarez proved critical in helping Newport beat Aurora, 7-5. The Unicorns right fielder went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The 4th-place Unicorns improved to 46-50.

Alvarez contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Newport in the top of the sixth. With his team trailing 5-2, Alvarez took a fastball from Kieran Carlyle and stroked the home run to left. His 2nd home run of the season allowed the Unicorns to leap in front, 6-5.

"There's still time to turn this season around," said Alvarez.
