With Late Score, Hex Beat Warlocks

The Providence Hex picked up a win at Ballpark of Providence, dropping the Waco Warlocks, 6-5. Frank Rivera, who is tied for 2nd in the SL1 with a 8.7 K/9 rate, was the difference-maker. Providence pitcher D.J. Nelson earned the win, hiking his record to 3-7. Ben Whitman suffered the loss. The third-place Hex improved to 52-44.
In the bottom of the ninth, with no one out and the game tied, 5-5, 21-year old third baseman Mike Unruh won it for Providence. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Unruh hit a 1-0 slider from Ben Whitman for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 6-5 win.
"He who laughs last laughs best," Unruh said, postgame.
