Boston Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
Their bats were silent and Boston had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Whistlers struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 20-year-old starter Pat Wilber. The right-hander quieted the Detroit Giants at Ballpark of Detroit to help Boston take the 3-1 decision and seize a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.

Boston used the timely hitting of Carlos Herrera to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whistlers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Boston manager Ben Foster called it "a pretty good win."

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Whislters Park in Boston.
