8-6 Newport Loss Tarnishes Paz's Fine Effort
Though he had a terrific game, Ramon Paz could not prevent his team, the Newport Unicorns, from absorbing a loss. St. Joseph won the game, 8-6. Paz was 4-5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Jim Unknown earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 1-0. Earning his 9th save of the year was Timothy Lipinski.

St. Joseph catcher William Hernandez contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the ninth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 70th hit of the season and put the Mighty Mites ahead, 6-4.

"We did a lot of good things tonight," said St. Joseph manager Chris Houston.
