The Boston Whistlers wasted no time taking the lead in the Divisional Series, beating the Detroit Giants at Ballpark of Detroit by the score of 5-3. The win gives Boston a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Whistlers right-hander Jay Helm threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball.

Jeff Beeson came through with a big-time hit for Boston. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"I just made my pitches," said Helm, "and the ball kept missing the bat."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Detroit in Detroit.
