Hex Popped by Mighty Mites, 6-3
|
Due in large part to left fielder Scott Gabel, the St. Joseph Mighty Mites sunk the Providence Hex, 6-3. Gabel was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Taylor Robison, the winner, improved to 1-4. He held the Hex to no runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Hedde Castillo got the save, the 6th for him this season.
Cory Dikeman had a big bases-clearing double for the Mighty Mites in the top of the fifth inning. With St. Joseph leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Davis Novoa, who is tied for 4th in the SL1 in innings pitched with 116.0, and swatted a double to left. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mighty Mites ahead, 6-0.
"We were able to put some good swings on some pitches," Gabel told the St. Joseph Daily News.
The Mighty Mites sport a record of 21-71.
