Waco beat Newport on the strength of starting pitcher Chris Childress's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. Waco reliever Sam Betourne picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Armando Castro took the loss. Waco has 3 straight wins, Newport 3 straight losses.

The Unicorns had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Warlocks going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old third baseman Chris Espinoza came to the plate. Espinoza hit a 2-run double on a full count changeup from Newport hurler Armando Castro. It was Espinoza's 7th double of the year.

"The effort we put into this one paid off," Espinoza said.
