The Cincinnati Royals powered past the hometown San Diego Fleet, 5-2, in the opener of the Wildcard Game at San Diego Stadium. Cincinnati starting pitcher Casey Abbott threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Royals now lead the series 1-0.

Cincinnati used a clutch at-bat from Aaron Jalbert to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Royals ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Jalbert. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."

Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at The Castle in Cincinnati.
