When he got to Randolph, Brian Underwood was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Division Series.

The 23-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the visiting Spokane Selects, 3-0, in a remarkable performance at Prairie Thunder Ballpark. With the win, the Prairie Thunder took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 Division Series.

Underwood, a native of Montebello, California, was dealing all game. He kept Spokane hitters off-balance, while giving the Prairie Thunder 7 quality innings. Underwood threw 101 pitches, allowing 5 hits and striking out 7.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Randolph skipper Michael Kelleher.

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Selects Ballpark in Spokane.
