Portland Mad Ants manager Efren Nieman knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 19-year-old left-hander Josh Huggins silenced the host Montreal Royals at Turtles Ballpark. The Mad Ants shut out the Royals by a final score of 6-0, to give the Mad Ants a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Division Series.

The Royals had trouble solving Huggins, who surrendered no runs on 3 hits over 7.1 innings.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Portland manager Efren Nieman.

The next game is set to be played for Thursday, September 23rd , 2021 at Mad Ants Ballpark in Portland.
