Behind a fine performance from Jason Collins, the Pikeville Cavalry knocked off the Aurora Paints, 10-5. Collins was 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Cavalry. Mario Acosta, who is tied for 5th in the SL1 with a 7.8 K/9 rate, was the winning pitcher. Over 9 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 11 hits, with 6 walks and 8 strikeouts. With the victory, the Cavalry record stands at 21-35.
Jay Brown had a big 2-run home run for the Cavalry in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Pikeville trailing 3-2 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Kieran Carlyle, who is tied for 2nd in the SL1 in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Cavalry on top, 4-3.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Collins told a Pikeville Times reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
