Golden Gophers Reel Off Another Win
|
Tacoma got a big-time effort from pitcher Jim Unknown, but it wasn't enough to keep the Little Rock Golden Gophers from winning the game, 3-0. Unknown threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Ronnie Downard closed the game out for Little Rock, earning his 2nd save. The losing streak for Tacoma has now reached 8 games.
The Thunder Wolves had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Golden Gophers going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old catcher Mike Fogg came to the plate. Fogg hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 fastball from Tacoma hurler Jim Unknown. It was Fogg's 12th home run of the year.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Alfonso Estrada told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
