Their bats were silent and Ft. Wayne had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Earthquakes struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 21-year-old starter Angelo Quezada. The right-hander quieted the Corpus Christi Texans at Earthquakes Stadium to help Ft. Wayne take the 3-1 decision and seize a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Division Series.

Ft. Wayne took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Orlando de Jesus hit a clutch 2-run home run to bring Earthquakes fans to their feet.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Quezada said.

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.
