Newport Beats Little Rock, 5-4
|
The Little Rock Golden Gophers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Marcos Patino into a win. Instead, the Newport Unicorns prevailed, 5-4. Patino came in in relief and pitched to 16 batters. Picking up the win was Danny Fleitas. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 3. Jordan McAfee nailed down his 1st save.
The Unicorns got a big at-bat from shortstop Nate Ladnier. For the game, Ladnier went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Newport a 2-0 lead.
"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Ladnier told the Newport Observer.
The win has Newport at 24-41.
