Ft. Wayne Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
The Ft. Wayne Earthquakes faced a challenging opponent in Haviland Thrashers left-hander Brad Porretta, but did just enough to squeak out a 2-1 win in Game 2 of the Division Series. Ft. Wayne now leads 2-0 in the best-of-7 series. The Earthquakes won despite the Thrashers getting an excellent start from starter Porretta, who allowed 1 run and scattered 2 hits over 7.1 innings.
Had Randy Bunn not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Bunn hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Earthquakes.
"The other side played a good game," said Haviland manager Matt Conners. "You tip your cap to them."
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Ballpark of Haviland in Haviland.
