Loss Tarnishes Fine Effort by Bryars
Despite a great performance by Providence designated hitter Doug Bryars, the Newport Unicorns defeated the Hex by the score of 12-11 at Chanticleers Ballpark. Bryars went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Newport pitcher Alex Almanza earned the win, hiking his record to 2-2. Miguel Perez suffered the loss. Gary Lutz collected his 8th save.

Andrew Flynn took Providence hurler Miguel Perez deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 3-run home run put the Unicorns on top, 12-11. In all, Flynn had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Flynn, "but we got it done."

The Unicorns, at 16-20, sit in second place in the Sub League 1 West Division.
