Black Aces Stay Hot with Extra-Inning Win
|
The Aurora Paints could not turn a fine performance from right fielder Joel Gary into a win. Instead, the Santa Ana Black Aces prevailed, 5-3, in 10 innings. Gary went 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times. The win belonged to Mike Hrdlicka in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Albrecht Boerth took the loss for Aurora. Randy Wall recorded the save for Santa Ana, his 5th of the season.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 21-year old second baseman Adam Mathis. Mathis had a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Black Aces ahead, 5-3. For the game, Mathis had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Pedal to the metal" is how Santa Ana manager Elias Quesada described his team's approach.
Santa Ana now sits at 24-12, while Aurora falls to 15-21.
