Unicorns Get 5-3 Win Versus Waco
|
With shortstop Jose Corona leading the charge, the Newport Unicorns defeated the Waco Warlocks, 5-3, at Chanticleers Ballpark. Corona, who is tied for 4th in the SL1 in hits with 74, went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Jose Garcia in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Mario Acosta took the loss. Carlos Palmas earned the save for Newport, his 14th of the year.
In the bottom of the 7th, pinch hitter Hugo Campos gave Newport the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Unicorns had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out single off Waco pitcher Mario Acosta changed that -- and Newport went on to win.
"What we get, we earn," Corona told the Newport Bulletin.
The 4th-place Unicorns have won 5 in a row.
