Sweet 16 Goes the Distance, Louisville Prevails
|
When the entire season comes down to one game, John Lopez said you find out what a team is really about.
As it turns out, the Louisville Cardinals are made of fight and tenacity, as the team got by the Clemson Tigers 4-2 tonight at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in order to win the Sweet 16 and book a place in the next round.
"It wasn't hard to get excited for this game," said Lopez, whose strong offensive output earned him MVP honors. "Our guys answered the call and proved a lot about what our team is all about."
Lopez hit .556 with a .714 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 5 runs.
The Louisville Cardinals will play against the Michigan State Spartans in the next round. Michigan State won their series against the Virginia Cavaliers 2 games to 0. The Elite 8 schedule will be announced after the Sweet 16 finishes.
