Bats Lose at Home, 4-2
|
Long Island first baseman Andrew Ortiz contributed significantly to his team's 4-2 win over the Whitby Bats. Ortiz went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Torpedoes. Danny Guerrero was the winner. He's now 1-1. The loser was Juan Mejia. Long Island is now 51-84.
Mario Alvarez, who is tied for 6th in the NC in hits with 117, took Whitby hurler Juan Mejia deep in the top of the sixth. His solo home run put the Torpedoes on top, 3-2. In all, Alvarez had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"That's how you're going to be successful," said Torpedoes manager Victor Sepulveda. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
