Bats Shut Out Torpedoes, 5-0
|
Vinny Padilla pitched a gem to lead Whitby to victory over the Long Island Torpedoes, 5-0. Padilla, now 6-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no runs. With the win, Whitby upped its record to 73-57.
Justin Allery had a big solo home run for the Bats in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Whitby leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a splitter from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Raul Sauceda and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Bats on top, 2-0.
"Vinny was aggressive right out of the chute," said Whitby manager David Sawyers.
