The Long Island Torpedoes banked on Jesus Perez and he turned in a masterful performance. The left-hander kept the Terra Linda hitters in check. The final score was 3-1, Torpedoes. Perez, the winner, moves to 7-12. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks. Mike Hall nailed down his 10th save.
Long Island took the lead, 3-1, on Joe Pettit's 14th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Pettit hit in the bottom of the seventh, made Terra Linda pitcher Ryan McEntyre wince.
"Watch and learn," said Pettit. "This is what good pitching looks like."
The Torpedoes go to 49-75, putting them last in the Northern Conference East Division.
