The Franklin Cubs knocked off the Long Island Torpedoes, 3-1, in Northern Conference action at Franklin Park. Franklin pitcher and Colfax, Louisiana, native Jeremy Dawson had an outstanding performance. Ronnie Feidler, credited with the save, is now 7 for 9 in save opportunities. Long Island's current losing streak is now 5 games.
The Torpedoes had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Cubs going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old left fielder Jaden Lewis came to the plate. Lewis hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from Long Island hurler Luis Torres. It was Lewis's 22nd home run of the year.
"Tough loss," said Long Island manager Victor Sepulveda. "But that's how the chips sometimes fall."
