Tight Tilt Goes to Bats, 3-2
|
Bats center fielder Avery Williams put his stamp on his team's 3-2 win over the Moncton Mounties. Williams was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk for Whitby in the contest. Whitby reliever Kevin Harris picked up the win, upping his record to 5-6. Alex Hernandez was saddled with the loss. The first-place Bats hiked their record to 76-38.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Bats had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when first baseman Marco Grijalva hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Alex Hernandez and made the score 3-0, Bats. Grijalva went 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 singles.
"If it's down the middle," said Williams, "you might as well hit it."
