Loss Spoils Fine Performance by Vance
The Whitby Bats withstood a fine game by Buffalo first baseman Derek Vance at Wegman's Field, to upend the Bellflowers, 10-7. Vance went 4-5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Getting the save was Joey Bove, his 3rd. By defeating Buffalo, the third-place Bats improved to 59-49.

Whitby used a clutch hit from Chris Malone to get the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bats ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Malone told reporters after the game.
