Free Falling Cubs Lose Again
|
Franklin designated hitter Eddie Mongold was sensational. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Whitby beat the Cubs, 6-3. Raul Cisneros earned the win to go to 3-3. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with no walks and 9 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. The Cubs, now 41-52, have lost 11 straight.
The Bats got a big hit from third baseman Josh Gillespie. In the bottom of the sixth, Gillespie smacked a 2-run home run off Franklin pitcher Jimmy Lyles. It was his 13th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Bats were ahead, 2-1.
Franklin manager Kerry McElree, after yet another defeat, said: "We don't want to panic. At the same time, we need to stop the bleeding."
