Fans watched the Long Island Torpedoes and the Whitby Bats fight to the finish.

Long Island starter Geert Brown had a strong outing against the Whitby Bats at Eláguila Stadia. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. T.J. Hoffarth converted his 23rd save in 29 tries.

Long Island took a 4-2 lead on Steve Doyle's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Whitby pitcher Chris McAuley in the top of the ninth.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Long Island manager Steve Reid.

Long Island is now 50-44, while Whitby is 61-33.
