Torpedoes Done In By Archers, 4-2
|
The Abingdon Archers rode a solid performance from 19-year-old starting pitcher Jim Unknown to a win, beating the Long Island Torpedoes, 4-2, at Reagor Dykes Stadium. Unknown went the distance for Abingdon. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. The win cannot erase the fact that Abingdon still has a disappointing 21-68 record.
In the bottom of the first inning, third baseman David Byerly had a 2-run home run for Abingdon. It was his 23rd home run of the season and put the Archers on top, 2-0.
Unknown told a Abingdon Daily reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
