The Saint Pierre and Miquelon Pirates weathered a fine game by Long Island designated hitter Justin MacKoul to upend the Torpedoes, 5-4, at Spinners Ballpark. MacKoul was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Ben Epps picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-10. Gabe Rubio suffered the loss. Efrain Baez locked down his 2nd save.

Had Danny Soto not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Soto hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Pirates.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Soto.

Saint Pierre and Miquelon, with the win, climbs to 27-58.
