Torpedoes Lose at Home, 3-1, to Franklin
|
The Long Island Torpedoes were defeated, 3-1, by the Franklin Cubs at Centerville Grounds, even though Steve Quintero pitched well for Long Island. Ruben Lopez, who is tied for 8th in the NC in innings pitched with 86.1, earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 2-6. Nate Ray was credited with the save, his 3rd in 4 tries.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from right fielder Ricky Martinez. For the game, Martinez went 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the second, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Franklin a 2-0 lead.
"Our offense was purring," said Franklin manager Alec Roller. "Like a well-oiled machine."
The win makes Franklin 27-58, nothing to write home about.
