Torpedoes Suffer One-Run Loss at Buffalo
|
Ben Calder was locked in. The right-hander led the Buffalo Bellflowers to a 5-4 win against the Long Island Torpedoes at Wegman's Field. The winner was Calder. He threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The loser was Jesus Perez. Justin Cox closed the door for Buffalo, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Alex Melo had a big grand slam home run for the Bellflowers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Buffalo trailing 2-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a splitter from 18-year old left-handed pitcher Jesus Perez and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Bellflowers on top, 4-2.
"Both teams played hard," said Buffalo manager Andy Perez.
Buffalo leads the Northern Conference East Division by 3 games.
