Marty Matthews had a strong outing for the Whitby Bats against the Borrego Springs Rams at Eláguila Stadia. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-1 win. The setback makes Borrego Springs 47-35.

The Bats got a big at-bat from center fielder Nick Schultz. For the game, Schultz was 1-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Whitby a 3-1 lead.

"Marty did a heck of a job," said Whitby manager David Sawyers.
