The Franklin Cubs had no problem beating the Buffalo Bellflowers, 13-2, at Franklin Park. Vinny Torres, who is tied for 8th in the NC in stolen bases with 12, led the onslaught. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 7 for Franklin. Ruben Lopez, the winner, improved to 10-1. He held Buffalo to 2 runs on 3 hits over 5.2 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. The Cubs go to 40-41, putting them third in the Northern Conference East Division.
With Franklin leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Torres batted against Buffalo pitcher Keith Carter. Torres hit a changeup to right for a grand slam home run. His 17th home run of the season put the Cubs on top, 7-0.
Said losing manager Andy Perez: "At the end of the day, we've got to play better."
