Down to Defeat Goes Franklin, 3-1
|
Centerville Grounds was the site of a tense game between the Franklin Cubs and Long Island Torpedoes.
Starting pitcher Jesus Perez gave the Long Island Torpedoes a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Franklin Cubs, 3-1, at Centerville Grounds. Perez picked up the win for Long Island, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 5-6.
The Cubs had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Torpedoes going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old catcher Matt Yeager came to the plate. Yeager hit a solo home run on a 1-1 fastball from Franklin hurler Adam Williams. It was Yeager's 17th home run of the year.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Yeager said after the game.
Long Island is in last place in the Northern Conference East Division with a record of 30-44.
